The Belted Kingfisher is one of the few bird species in which the female is more brightly colored than the male. The female Belted Kingfisher has blue upperparts, a white collar, broad bluish-grey breast band, and a chestnut band across the lower breast and streaks of chestnut on the sides. However, the most distinctive feature of this bird is its conspicuous, double-pointed crest set upon the large, blue head. Here the female belted kingfisher is resting on branch at Druid Ridge.
