Druid Hill Reservoir

Thursday, March 20, 2014 was the First Day of Spring (Spring Equinox) 2014. It was a beautiful sunny day at Druid Hill Reservoir in northwest Baltimore. Inaugurated in 1860, Druid Hill Park ranks as one of the the oldest landscaped public parks in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus)

This Red-shouldered hawk, with it’s distinguishing characteristics of reddish shoulders and a rust-colored breast with white and dark streaks sits perched on a branch below the forest canopy at the edge of a swamp near my office.
